As far as the first recorded efforts regarding reaching the summit of Everest are concerned, then British mountaineers made these. The first ascent on Mount Everest was made by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hilary which was in the year 1953. The summit of Mount Everest could be reached from two routes namely, one from the Nepal’s southeast and the other from Tibet’s north. The route from Nepal is regarded as the standard route.
It is interesting to find that prior to the discovery of the Mount Everest it was Kanchenjunga which was regarded as the world’s highest peak. The Great Trigonometry Survey of India which was begun in the year 1802 by the British could be said as the initial step of discovery of the Mount Everest. Mount Everest gets its name after Sir George Everest which was recommended by Andrew Waugh. Apart from the two main routes mentioned above, Everest could be climbed from other routes as well. The total number of ascents to the Mount Everest is above five thousand.
In terms of flora and fauna in this region, there are appearance made by jumping spider and Bar-headed Goose. Moss also has been found to grow in this region. The first published height of the Mount Everest was made in 1856 and was established by the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India. Mount Everest was then referred as Peak XV. Before the official ascent of this mountain by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary (1953), one year prior to this, a height of 8595 was reached by Tenzing. George Finch and Captain C. Geoffrey Bruce were the first ones to climb the 8000 metres of Mount Everest in year 1922. The first female to ascent the Mount Everest is Junko Tabei in 1975. Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler made first ascent to the Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen in 1978. During the Mount Everest summit worker of highlands set up four camps in different height. Main base camp of Everest summit situated at 5335 m and high camps are located at height of 6,100 m, 6,500 m, 7,400 m and 8,000 m and of course the summit, at 8848m.
